World Cleanup Day

The JRC Diving Club and the Hungarian Cultural Semester invites you to join the World Cleanup Day 2024!

This year's event takes place on Friday 20 September following its addition to the UN Calendar of International Days!

The aim is to activate 5% of the world's population that will catalyse lasting societal change in behaviour around mismanaged waste.

This is an invitation to people from all sectors, from every nation, from all levels of society to join us. Let's do it – together!

Plastic Cup was born from the desperation over what has become a regular event, the Tisza river’s plastic flooding, aka the plastic bottle tsunami. At times, the pollution reaches levels that make it difficult to trust your own eyes. Our initiative is an attempt to put a stop to the recurring waves of pollution.

The waste collected from the Tisza, from the floodplain and the nearby settlements is undergoing a spectacular transformation under just a few weeks, before the eyes of the public nonetheless. During the PLASTIC CUP, boats are built from waste from the Tisza, which will win the PLASTIC boat title if they meet the rules applied to them. After the PLASTIC boats are built, they have to go through the test of the water-police: are they fit for the trip, is there an anchor, is everyone wearing a life-jacket?

The PLASTIC CUP’s main goal is to get participants to contribute to the cleaning of the Tisza as much as possible. Thus, the building of the boats is not the end of the main activities – quite the opposite, in fact. While they are afloat, the crew of the boats are doing their best to collect as much waste from the river as they can, by all possible means. Plastic Cup is the first, and as far as we know, the only initiative in the world that looks to fight garbage by using garbage.

L'evento di quest'anno si svolgerà venerdì 20 settembre in seguito all’aggiunta della Giornata Mondiale della Pulizia al Calendario delle Giornate Internazionali delle Nazioni Unite!

L’obiettivo è di attivare il 5% della popolazione mondiale per catalizzare un cambiamento sociale duraturo nel comportamento riguardo ai rifiuti mal gestiti.

É un invito per la gente di tutti i settori, di ogni nazione, di tutti i livelli della società a unirsi a noi. Facciamolo assieme!

Orario di inizio e luogo precisi da definire

Plastic Cup nasce dalla disperazione per quello che è diventato un evento regolare, l’inondazione di plastica del fiume Tisza (Tibisco), ovvero lo tsunami delle bottiglie di plastica. A volte l’inquinamento raggiunge livelli che rendono difficile fidarsi dei propri occhi. La nostra iniziativa è un tentativo di porre fine alle ricorrenti ondate di inquinamento.

I rifiuti raccolti dal Tisza, dalla pianura alluvionale e dai comuni vicini subiscono una trasformazione spettacolare in poche settimane, tuttavia, davanti agli occhi del pubblico. Durante la PLASTIC CUP, con gli scarti del Tisza, vengono costruite delle barche che vinceranno il titolo di barche PLASTIC se rispettano le regole ad esse applicate. Dopo che le barche di PLASTICA sono state costruite, devono passare il controllo della polizia marittima: sono adatte al viaggio, c'è un'ancora, tutti indossano un giubbotto di salvataggio?

L’obiettivo principale di PLASTIC CUP è convincere i partecipanti a contribuire il più possibile alla pulizia del Tisza. La costruzione delle barche non rappresenta la fine delle attività principali, anzi, tutt’altro. Mentre sono a galla, l'equipaggio delle barche fa del suo meglio per raccogliere quanti più rifiuti possibile dal fiume, con tutti i mezzi possibili. PLATIC CUP è la prima, e per quanto ne sappiamo, l’unica iniziativa al mondo che mira a combattere i rifiuti utilizzando i rifiuti.
